Educators as Co-Architects of AI: The Story Behind Challa

# Developing Teachers & Leaders
# Accelerating Systems Change
Join Yukabeth Kidenda, Co-founder and CEO of Teach For Kenya, for a live conversation about how her team built Challa, an AI-powered coaching platform supporting teachers in Kenyan classrooms. This session goes beyond what the tool does to show how it came to be: months of field research with coaches and teachers before any technology was designed, and the early conversations that followed with Anthropic on the technical support needed to build it further. Attendees will gain an understanding of what it looks like when educators, not companies, lead the design of AI tools meant to serve them, and what that approach could mean for how AI shows up in their own schools or communities.
This session is part of the AI LCC Thought Leadership Series, a monthly conversation connecting global voices in AI and education with practitioners putting these ideas into practice.
*This session will be a fireside conversation with questions from the community*

Objectives

  • Learn how Teach For Kenya built Challa by putting field research with coaches and fellows first, technology second.
  • Get a live look at AI in practice from a Teach For All partner already building and using its own tool.
  • See what it means for educators to co-architect AI, linking Challa to the AI LCC's shift from AI dependency to AI agency.
